What Happens to Outdoor Waste?

According to research, 1.2 kg of waste per person is produced every day in our country. Considering the whole country, this figure amounts to 96 million tons. Where does this waste go after being thrown in the bin? This garbage, collected at regular intervals by the municipality with trucks, is transferred to landfills or industrial facilities. Waste such as paper, glass, cardboard, and plastic found in this garbage is taken by industrial facilities for recycling. Waste going to landfills is separated into categories such as household waste, medical waste, hazardous waste, etc., and is regularly stored or destroyed. In regular storage, garbage is buried in deep pits and covered with insulated material to prevent seepage into the soil. Waste to be destroyed is incinerated. Hazardous waste is placed in concrete structures and dropped to the bottom of the sea. Many developed countries in the world produce energy from waste. A method called pyrolysis is used to produce energy from waste. In this method, waste is compressed in an airless environment and turned into coal, liquid fuel, or gas.
