During the pandemic, citizens who frequently shopped at markets turned to disposable market bags more due to their single-use nature. Across Turkey, bag usage increased by 40-50% during this period. Market bag usage increased in direct proportion to customers' shopping rates. Another factor that increased bag usage was the rise in home delivery services during this period. Although there were some hygiene concerns, plastic bags were inevitably used for home deliveries as there was no other resource available.
Considering that annual plastic bag usage in our country is around 35 billion, the damage this consumption causes to the environment is enormous. For sustainable production, which we value for the sake of nature, the future, humanity, and living beings, it needs to be supported by customers as well. Therefore, we strongly recommend using cloth bags when shopping.
